Compact Dry™

MicroVal* Approved Chromogenic Media Plates

CompactDry is a ready-to-use method to minimise microbial testing time and improve quality control processes. Dehydrated, selective and chromogenic media for total count and/or microbial species identification.

CompactDry can be used to test raw materials and processed food products - food, drinks, ready meals, cosmetic and environmental. CompactDry is also used to test surfaces (both food and environmental) using sample swabbing.

CompactDry has a sealed lid to minimise cross-contamination/spillage and a rigid structure to ease handling and stacking.

Compact Dry™ plate

Compact Dry™ chromogenic media plates have a range of microbiological applications:

  • Ready-to-Use:
    • No need for sterilization.
    • Avoid cross-contamination.
  • Self-Diffusing Media:
    • Allows 10-second hands-on time.
    • No need for other accessories.
    • No need for spreading, and tilting of plates.
  • Practical:
    • Simplified workflow.
    • Easy 3-step microbial test: inoculate, incubate and interpret.
    • Small size, stackable for easy incubation.
  • Wide range:
    • 15 different identifiable bacterial targets among the most commonly searched and other specific ones.
    • Applicable to most solid and liquid samples, membrane filtration, air sampling, hand and surface swabbing.
  • Fast and accurate results:
    • Results within 24 to 48 hours for most bacterial targets.
    • Distinct colour contrast for better identification of bacteria.
    • Easier differentiation between yeasts and moulds due to air spaces that allow for 3D growth.
    • Easy collection of isolated colonies for further pathogen analysis.
    • International approvals (NF, AOAC, MicroVal, NordVal).

Application

Compact Dry™ plates provide a convenient test method for counting micro-organisms. The plates are supplied sterile and ready-to-use, and the media is dehydrated allowing for a long shelf life at room temperature. The incorporation of chromogenic agents in the media ensures that the plates are easy to interpret, making them an ideal alternative to the conventional pour plate method.

Compact Dry™ plates

The plates can be used to test raw materials as well as finished products such as; food, beverages, meat and cosmetics. Compact Dry™ is ideal for laboratory use and is portable, facilitating on-site sampling.

The unique design of the Compact Dry™ Swab enables effective samples of even the most difficult areas.

Room temperature storage and easy-to-use design make Compact Dry™ plates the ideal solution for a range of microbiology testing requirements.

Protocol

Compact Dry™ 1-3

  1. Remove the cap.
  2. Dispense 1 mL of sample in the middle of the CompactDry plate.
  3. The sample diffuses passively and evenly across the dehydrated media sheet, rehydrating the dry medium into a gel within seconds.

Compact Dry™ 4-6

  1. Replace the cap, label and turn the plate over.
  2. Incubate for the appropriate time and at the required temperature.
  3. Following incubation, count the number of coloured microbial colonies.

Approvals

*   Compact Dry™ ETB, EC, CF and TC have all been tested and approved by MicroVal.

MicroVal is a European certification organisation for the validation and approval of alternative methods for the microbiological analysis of food and beverages.
